It seems that Ford's SVT offshoot is being disbanded, although the
Ford Shelby GT500 – the supercharged Mustang - was developed by SVT, and is still promoted by SVT. But SVT evidently lacks the staff to do much new, so the GT500 may be the last SVT product. It looks as if SVT is one more casualty in Ford's fight for survival, which means it reduce costs a lot. Outfits like SVT gain the company publicity and a following among car racing buffs, but not enough hard dollars.
Ford Racing meanwhile produces a range of engines suitable for racing, including a 5 liter modular engine good for 340-450 bhp, and a 5.75 liter engine which can be tuned in the 385-475 bhp range.
Then there is the 5.4 liter modular engine, in this case with a cast iron block - a bit of a retrograde step that - which produces 500 bhp with 480 lb ft (650 Nm) torque. That is basically the engine of the Shelby GT500.
In addition, Ford Racing has the Aluminator, the aluminum block 4.6 liter V-8, also from the modular range of course, which is capable of producing 700 bhp when supercharged, which seems to be Ford's preferred way of getting extra power. this engine revs to 7,000 rpm.
Included in the Ford racing range is a drag racing engine, designed to burn nitro fuel.
